In America, there is an overpopulation of homeless pets. There are simply too many companion animals and not enough homes.

But you can help. One way to start putting an end to pet overpopulation is to adopt your next pet from your local shelter or breed rescue group. By doing so you immediately give a home to an animal that didn't have one, and you reduce the overall number of homeless pets out there.

It is the best decision I ever made.

I adopted this sweet and pretty yellow Labrador mix from the Humane Society of Greater Miami. This chic new shelter has a small selection of pets but they are equally as sweet. They have a lot of black labradors there. I adopted a black labrador mix, below. I noticed a lot of black dogs at the shelters.

I think some people think they look dark and scary, but that is not the case at all. Labradors, or Lab-Mix's are my favorite breed. They are sweet, gentle, mild-mannered, love to play and great with kids. They don't growl or act possessive. Labrador Mixes are the best and there are lots of them available at shelters.

My new sweet pea, a black labrador mix, so full of love and playfulness. She is so happy to have a nice, happy, loving home. She loves tummy rubs and cuddling. I love you sooo much and thank God for you every day!!!

She was neglected, skinny and found tied to a fence when she was rescued. Now she is fat (too many treats) and happy! Adopted from sabbathrescue.org
